Group exercise program for hip and knee osteoarthritis coming to Parkway

GoodLife with osteoarthritis in Denmark (GLA:D®) is an evidence-based education and personalized, targeted exercise program for people with symptomatic hip and/or knee OA. The program began in Denmark and was brought to Canada in 2016.

GLA:DTM Canada is a group based education and exercise program. It includes 2 education sessions focused on knowledge and treatment of OA, exercise and self-help. This is followed by 12 supervised exercise sessions based on Neuromuscular principles delivered twice weekly for 6 weeks. Participants have an option to provide data at 3 points in time (pre-program, 3 and 12 month follow-up) to be collected in a national database.

Results from the GLA:DTM Canada 2017 report1 demonstrate that participants experienced an average of 28% reduction in pain intensity and increased physical activity an average of 35%. Quality of life improved on average 10% for hip participants and 25% for knee participants. Additional findings and information on the program can be found on the website: http://gladcanada.ca

This program is set to begin at Parkway Physiotherapy in the very near future. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to call our clinic to inquire further or email sarahm@parkwayphysiotherapy.ca.
